Gregory sits down next to her. “You saved it,” he says. “It’s only 480i upscaled,” she admits. “But the intention is 4K.” He almost smiles. “That’s the most Janine thing you’ve ever said.” She offers him a juice box. The pageant is grainy, glorious, and features a 9-year-old Melissa stuffing juice boxes into her snowflake costume while singing “We Are the World (But for Composting).” Jacob cries.
