Corra forced a smile, trying to hide her nervousness. She had come to this place seeking a chance to make it big, to prove herself as an actress. But as she looked around at the cramped, dingy space, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was in over her head.
Corra stepped into the dimly lit room, the smell of stale cigarettes and yesterday's regret hanging heavy in the air. She had heard the rumors, of course – who hadn't? – about the Backroom Casting Couch, where aspiring actors and actresses came to "audition" for roles that promised fame and fortune, but often delivered only exploitation and heartache.
And yet, even as she felt herself being pulled down into the depths of the Backroom Casting Couch, Corra couldn't help but wonder: was it all worth it? The fame, the fortune, the fleeting thrill of success – was it enough to sacrifice her soul?
