Born in 1964 in Ermelo, South Africa, Dube began his career in the mbaqanga (South African soul) scene before finding his true calling in reggae during the apartheid era. His music became a soundtrack for resistance, love, and hope. Even decades after his tragic passing in 2007, his catalog remains timeless.
Tragically, he was killed in a carjacking attempt in 2007 in Johannesburg. But his music refuses to fade. In fact, new generations are discovering him through streaming and samples (his work has been covered and sampled by artists like Damian Marley and Chronixx). Turn this mix on when you need strength. When you need to remember that music can fight oppression. When you need to feel irie—and awake.
