The humor comes from awkward family dinners, cultural clashes, and the chaos of hospital waiting rooms. The comedy is smart, never mean-spirited, and balanced with genuinely moving moments. Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as Emily’s parents steal every scene with deadpan delivery and surprising depth.
It’s weird without being pretentious. The humor comes from deadpan reactions to grotesque situations. Think What We Do in the Shadows meets Fargo .
